The Viking glider is a modern, high performance, two seat glider, in which the cadet sits at the front of the cockpit. The gliders were winch launched to over 500m and then followed a flight plan over Salisbury Plain.
Each CSIA CCF cadet was given control of the aircraft, allowing the cadets to manoeuvre the aircraft using their newly revised skills. The RAF pilot took back control for the landing! Each cadet completed Ground School and two sorties and was awarded their blue wings and a beaming smile.
We are grateful to the pilots and ground crew of 622VGS Volunteer Glider Squadron at Upavon airfield.
