Research forms a fundamental part of the Nexus VI Programme. In Year 12, students undertake the Extended Project Qualification and choose their own research question to investigate, alongside the international research opportunities we offer. We are delighted to be a partner school of IRIS, the Institute for Research in Schools, who provide Nexus students with cutting edge university-grade equipment and resources to support their research.
This status was awarded in part due to our engagement with the CERN @ Schools Project. Students used a TimePix Detector to capture information about background radiation in the UK and in Singapore.
Public Lecture Series
Several times each term we host academic researchers from top universities such as Cambridge, Exeter and Bristol who give lectures on their current areas of research. Nexus students are given the opportunity to spend time with these speakers to ask questions and explore the topic in more detail. The experience of holding academic discussions with researchers at the cutting edge of scientific understanding is excellent preparation when applying for top universities.
The current list of upcoming lectures can be found here.
